September Kids Fitness Program: Fun, Play, and Learning at Activate Kids
Hey Parents! We’ve got some super exciting plans for our Activate Kids program this September, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it! Designed for kids aged 5-10, our classes are all about having fun, learning new skills, and building confidence through movement. We know kids learn and develop at different paces, so we make sure to adjust everything to meet them where they are. Whether your child is new to exercise or already active, they’ll love what we have in store!
Theme for the Month: Fun, Play, and Learning Through Movement
This month’s focus is on developing foundational movement patterns while keeping it playful and engaging. We’ll work on primal movements like squats and pulls, introduce fun games, and sneak in a ton of learning while they’re having a blast. The idea is to build strong movement habits early on, so they feel confident in how they move.
Our coaches guide the kids through exercises that promote motor skill development, positional consistency, and—most importantly—fun! Whether they’re learning to squat or practicing throws, the emphasis is on making it enjoyable and accessible to everyone.
What Your Kids Will Experience:
Each class follows a fun, structured routine to keep things exciting and ensure the kids stay engaged throughout the month. Here’s how it works:
Warm-Up & Mobility:
We start with fun warm-up activities like seal walk races, obstacle courses, and animal movements to get them moving and ready to go. It’s a great way to wake up their bodies and prepare for the bigger movements.
Movement Practice:
This is where we break down key movements like squats, pulls, and rotational skills. Our coaches use easy-to-understand cues like “Strong Tree” and “Muscles ON” to help the kids grasp how to move properly without overwhelming them with too much information. And the best part? They’ll think they’re playing while learning these new skills!
For example, they’ll practice the squat by first mastering air squats and then moving on to fun variations like goblet squats with a light object. We also throw in some partner drills to make it interactive, helping kids learn teamwork while they move.
Work-Play Time:
This is where the fun really ramps up! During “work-play,” kids will cycle through short bursts of movements like box squats, jumps, or throwing games. These activities not only keep them moving but also reinforce the skills they’ve been learning.
In one of our favorites, “Hillbilly Basketball,” kids will throw, catch, and run in a creative basketball-style game using medicine balls and makeshift baskets. It’s pure joy for them, but also sneaks in skill development like coordination and balance.
Games and Play-Based Learning
At Activate Kids, play is at the heart of everything we do. Every session ends with a game that ties together the skills they’ve been working on, from “Tug of War” to “Hoover Ball” (think volleyball but with a soft medicine ball!). These games allow the kids to experiment with movement, build teamwork, and most importantly, have fun.
For example, in “Towel Drag,” one child pulls their partner across the gym on a towel while the other rides along—strength, teamwork, and laughter all rolled into one! And for kids who love a challenge, games like “Wall Twister” will have them balancing, twisting, and giggling as they race to touch the right spots on the wall.
What Will Your Kids Learn?
Through all the fun, your child will be developing important motor skills that will help them in sports, school, and everyday activities. This month, the focus is on:
- Squats: Building strong legs and learning proper form to avoid injuries.
- Pulling movements: Developing upper-body strength with fun drills like ring rows and rope climbs.
- Rotational throws: Learning to use their whole body for power, whether it’s for throwing or running.
The best part? They’ll be learning without even realising it because it’s all wrapped up in games and playful activities!
